Visual Problems:
Scale or scum
Turbid water
Green stains on fixtures
Brown-red stains on fixtures
Cloudy water that clears upon standing
Cause:
Calcium or Magnesium Salts Dirt, clay salts, silt or rust
High acidity
Clothing dissolved iron
Poorly working pumps or problems with filters


Taste Problems:
Salty or brackish
Alkali or soapy taste
Metallic taste
Chemical
Cause:
High sodium
Dissolved alkaline minerals
Acidity or high iron content
Chemicals or pesticides
Smell Problems:
Rotten egg odor
Detergent odor or foaming water
Gasoline or oil smell
Methane gas or earthy / musty Chlorine

Cause:
Dissolved hydrogen sulfide gas or sulfur reducing bacteria
Seepage from septic tanks
Leaking gasoline storage tanks
Decaying organic matter
Excessive chlorination

Well Disinfection
Disinfection may reduce or eliminate bacteria and viruses. Disinfection will not correct chemical contamination such as inorganics (nitrate, sulfate), pesticides, herbicides, metals or volatile organics.
